Elected officials, fueled by Colorado prosecutors, have become eager to punish all manner of behavior and have criminalized virtually all aspects of human conduct. Good citizens and families are often caught up in a system that fails to recognize that justice does not always mean the filing of a criminal complaint.

The result is too many people in a massive and failed system resulting in harmful outcomes such as overcrowded jails and prisons. Criminal sanctions have a role to play in punishing socially harmful or dangerous behavior. Yet the criminal code is far from the only tool in the box, and CCDI advocates for less punitive and more constructive sanctions designed to downsize the criminal justice system.
