Death Penalty

CCDI is morally opposed to the death penalty under all circumstances and advocates for its abolition in Colorado and across the country. The death penalty is arbitrary, capricious and purely retributive in nature.  We condemn the punishment as a severe and degrading sentence that violates the prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. It does more to cheapen our regard for life and brutalize our values than to effectively deter crime, as shown by numerous studies.

It is clear is that Colorado’s death penalty is a failed public policy that cannot be repaired. The death penalty extracts a huge toll on the families of murder victims, is unfairly applied, and costs millions in taxpayer dollars.
